イル・ポスティーノ [DVD]

Il Postino is one of the best films in my life. Last ten minutes, in which Philippe Noiret does very quiet but sad acting along the beautiful coast of southern Italy, always make me cry. This film is full of love, romance, and joy, and also of some philosophy, politics and tragedy. For 90 minutes, you will float on the gentle play of an accordion and the piano which flows in every scene, and feel the strength of words and poetry.

Studying social sciences everyday, I sometimes feel as if my emotion has gone somewhore, or even become despaired of everything. At that time I read or watch something beautiful, one which tells me that this whole world is not too bad. Il Postino is one of the best films for such a moment. A poem of Pablo Neruda shown below which appears on the last scene represents the beauty of this film.

'And it was at that age...Poetry arrived in search of me. I don't know. I don't know where
it came from, from winter or a river. I don't know how or when, no, they were not voices,
they were not words, nor silence, but from a street I was summoned, from the branches of night,
abruptly from the others, among violent fires or returning alone,
there I was without a face and it touched me.'
Pablo Neruda
